Biography

Taking the straight highway is certainly the fastest and most efficient way to get someplace. Yet the winding road is surely the most interesting even though it is slower. Tim has taken that winding road through his life and has found the traveling to be interesting, challenging, frustrating and fulfilling. This journey has provided a rich background for his music. His poetic lyrics about the joys and challenges of everyday living, with a thread of the spiritual dimension woven in, offer a thoughtful and intimate look at life that speaks to the heart and touches the soul in a way that is uniquely his own.

During his quest to find his purpose and niche in the world, Tim obtained a masters degree in theology, a law degree, and a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He applied that education in his work life, having served as a Lutheran pastor, an attorney, an adjunct professor in law, religion, ethics and philosophy and as a martial arts instructor. Through it all, Tim always had his guitar and a love of music along with him.

At one point in his life, after having become disillusioned with the practice of law and when he was trying to figure out what to do next, he told his wife, Amy, that the one thing he had always wanted to do was to be a singer-songwriter. Much to her credit, Amy, instead of suggesting that he take a reality check, simply asked why he had not done anything about pursuing that dream. Tim’s only excuse was that he just didn’t think he’d be as good as Paul Simon or James Taylor, or any of the other songwriters he had admired throughout his life. Thankfully, Amy’s response was to challenge him to write a song. And once he started, he simply could not stop.

Tim’s songs have become a way for him to speak to people’s hearts in a shared human way, a way of acknowledging our longings to hear God’s voice in our lives, and a way to offer hope and encouragement to others. His debut album, “Go Fly A Kite” has been well-received by a growing circle of fans who have been moved by its music and lyrics.

Tim is a great example of the truth that “It is never too late to go after your dreams”. While doing so, he continues to practice law part-time and hang out with his wife and four children in Stillwater, Minnesota.
